Today Alex said (to one of Jesse's friends): "We named the baby Lolli...but we call her Sophie much."So--it got me thinking about names (Sophie's in particular) and I decided I better clarify what is going on with her name! (Someday she might wonder--and I don't trust my memory much!)
As soon as I found out I was pregnant with a girl (gasp!), Alex declared to all of us: "And her nickname will be Lollipop!" Because we had such a hard time deciding on a name, we got in the habit of calling her Baby Lolli throughout the rest of the pregnancy.
Now--on to her real name... We have never had so much trouble coming up with a name! Maybe it's because she will be the only girl and I felt like we had to have the perfect name. Maybe it's just because we had so many opinions this time! The boys all felt (and I sorta agreed) that she really should have a J or an A name to keep the pattern going! (Side note: The J's and A's were completely accidental until Alex--when we discovered it. Probably because Drew doesn't go by Andrew, it went unnoticed. I had really tried to use something other than a J name for Joseph--I really didn't want Drew to be the only one without one--but Joey just came with his name, there was no getting around it!) We decided it really should be an A--we already have oodles of J's. Only problem--finding an A name we all liked! The one person who didn't care at all about the pattern was Jason. His favorite names included: Sophie, Megan, and Marie (plus a few more that we won't embarrass him by listing!) Now, there were tons of A names that I liked, Anna being at the top of the list--but I was generally overruled! The boys all campaigned hard for Aleah--but in the end we decided to ignore the boys completely (what--do they think they're in charge around here or something?)--and Jason and I compromised to come up with Anna-Sophia and call her Sophie.
There was also this little matter of Alex seeing the baby in a dream and telling grandma her name was Sophie.--another story for another time!
(Sorry about the epistle, but I figured that one day Sophie might be interested.)
One more side note: Originally in the hospital we listed her name as Anna (first name) Sophia (middle name). Once we started getting mail that said "To the parents of Anna Mitchell" we decided to change it to Anna-Sophia (no middle name). We thought her name was already confusing enough, but maybe it would make a little more sense when the teacher calls out Anna-Sophia instead of Anna and she responds, "It's Sophie". On the other hand, if she responds "It's Lolli"--then I guess it doesn't really matter! :)

There is a chinese proverb (or so I've heard) that says, "He (or she) with many names is well loved." So I just think you are proving how much you love her!!
First of all the picture of little "Lolli" is beautiful!! I love her name! We have had a few of the same issues - Colby always thought his first name was Colby (it's really Nelson) until about the time school started & if you ask Lindsey what her name is she will tell you it is LuLu! Ashlyn called her Lindsey LuLu when she was only a few days old and the LuLu stuck more than the Lindsey! I figure a few years of therapy and they will both be ok!! LOL!!
Oh how I love the story of names! My 3rd baby was always "Honey Pie" before she was born according to her two older siblings- a "brother" and a "sister" as you may know from the Berstain (sp?) Bears. They had a baby girl named Honey so we had to have one too! Luckily that one didn't stick after birth! Anyway, Lolli is beautiful and obviously loved so very much!
I really think Alex got lollipop from our cat. (That's her name) Not that I'm proud to take credit for that or anything. It's just possible....
