Trip to the ZOO (both literally and figuratively)

Never mind the hot weather, never mind that Mandy and Jason were heading back to St. George that very day (seeing as their kids started school in the morning), never mind that I had at least two children who did NOT want to go...we all hopped (or got shoved in) to the car and headed to the zoo! Woo Hoo!

The day started out like this...all smiles!

Then....we stopped to see this monkey....

And THIS happened....

Yep--that's Alex's shoe in the monkey cage! (Grandma held him up for a closer look--and since we have a policy against tying shoes in our family...well you can see what happened)

After looking in vain for a zoo worker, Grandma finally called information to get a phone number for the zoo. She explained what happened and was told someone would come help. Now, to be clear, the monkey was in a cage--the shoe was just inside the fenced area. We could have hopped the fence without being in any danger, but we were pretty sure we WOULD find a zoo employee if we attempted that (or rather, they would find us!) So...Grandma waited while we drug our kids (I mean skipped happily) around the rest of the zoo.

In the meantime...we found more monkeys!
After waiting for an hour or so--Grandma called the zoo back and was told someone would be there at 3:30 (it was around noon at the time). She not so subtly hinted that we were going in ourselves--and surprise!--someone came right over!

So, lessons learned that day:
1. Tie your shoes--you never know when they might slip off into a monkey cage

2. There isn't anything that 13 ice cream cones can't fix

and finally #3. Even if you have a little of THIS going on...

...when you also have a lot of this--it's totally worth it!

Oh my gosh, you are the only person I know that has ever really lost a shoe in a monkey cage!! I love that your mom had to tell them you were going to get it before someone would help!! MEMORIES!!!
