Happy Birthday Alex!

Alex is FIVE! I can't believe it--he still seems like my baby! Anyone who knows me well--knows that four year-olds are my favorite people, so it will be hard not to have one for the next 3 years and 8 months! But Alex is so delightful, that he will probably make me change my mind and decide that five year-olds are actually my favorite people!!We had a small party for Alex and I noticed a few differences from when my older children had their 5th birthdays compared to when child #5 does!!!
Then vs. Now
1. The actual Birthday set aside as a special day vs. Celebrating one day earlier because it fit a little better into the schedule!

2. Making adorable invitations weeks (or at least days) in advance and passing them out in ample time so that everyone can mark their calendars vs. Calling/Texting a few people around 1:00 pm and letting them know there will be a party at 5:30 pm (and yes, presents will be expected--so they better drop everything and run to the store)

3. Thinking long and hard about the perfect theme and then making a great (or at least time-consuming) cake to go along with it vs. Taking Alex to the store one hour before the party and saying "Choose whatever you want--as long as it is already made! We can't order anything out of the book--understand?!"

4. Jason and I taking a date night to shop for an awesome gift that is going to make birthday boy feel extra special vs. almost taking Alex with me to buy a few gifts, then deciding that is REALLY going to far, only to blow it later by letting him see the gifts as I wrap them

5. Speaking of wrapping: Carefully wrapping presents complete with ribbon so they look good in pictures vs. throwing them in a recycled gift bag (from Lolli's baby shower no less--don't worry, I found the one that had the LEAST amount of pink on it) 6. Picking out a special outfit for the birthday boy and making sure his hair is combed just right vs. well--you can see what he looked like in the pictures (although--the BYU shirt does qualify as a special outfit!)

Drew made Alex a special "Birthday Chair" Drew and Joey went shopping with Grandma to buy their own gifts for Alex. They are such wonderful brothers!!)

The funny thing though...he had a GREAT birthday! In the end--it all ends up the same! Wrapping paper everywhere, frosting on everyone's faces, new toys scattered all over the house, and LOTS of smiles!!! He was just as happy as any birthday boy has ever been. It was his special day and he is our special boy!

We love you Alex! Happy Birthday!!!
