It's all about me! :)

I have never blogged about my own birthday (and will likely never again!), but...well, let me just start at the beginning.

Several months ago, Jason discovered that he had to be at important trade show over my birthday. There wasn't anything anyone could do about it, just one of those things. I wasn't too upset about it, until it also turned into one of the busiest weekends of my life! I somehow ended up on the Community Council at the Elementary school--and we were in charge of the ONLY fundraiser this year, a 5K, which also fell this weekend. So, needless to say, I've been dreading these last two days for a while now. My mom came up to help with the kids and to alleviate some stress, so really I had nothing to complain about...but that didn't stop me!

By Friday, as I was driving to the airport, I was in an absolute funk. Jason has been crazy busy these last few weeks  months, and quite frankly I was feeling neglected. He wasn't even going to be home for my birthday for crying out loud! (Yes, I was acting like a three year old--I'm not proud of it.) I could tell he felt so bad about not being around and was trying so hard to let me know how sorry he was. (I was being a punk.)

Right before we got to the airport, he told me he had accidentally left something on his desk that needed to be mailed and would I mind doing it for him..."Of course not, I live to serve!" I said sarcastically (in my head)...out loud I said, "No problem."

When I got home, I went down to the office, and found sitting on my desk a giant basket of all of my favorite goodies with a note that said..."Hi Doll, I'm sorry this isn't cute--I'm sorry I'm leaving over your birthday--I just want you to remember I LOVE YOU! Have a great weekend--I'll be thinking of you the whole time. Love you, Jason"

I might have teared up a little.

Now Jason is the most attentive, wonderful, loving husband--but pulling off cute surprises is not really his strong suit...the next morning I received the following text from him: "Good morning love...here's a clue: coats and games". I opened the coat closet (which also happens to be where we store our board games--don't ask.) and found a Brighton gift bag with a beautiful necklace inside! This weekend was starting to look up!

Fast forward to this morning--my actual birthday. The text this morning read: "Happy Birthday Doll! 3 Places: The room where I spend too much time, the room the boys spend too much time, and the room I need to spend more time in. I love you." After a little thinking, I made my way to the Office, the Rec room, and the Exercise room (that 3rd one had me stumped for a second...cause I forgot we HAD an exercise room!)...and found a gift bag in each room with some of the cutest clothes ever!! (I have to give credit where it's due--Jason employed the help of my awesome friend Nikki to actually pick out the gifts--which means I don't want to return ANYTHING!).

He also had Nikki bring over a cake this afternoon--my favorite of course! My parents showed up to watch conference and have dinner--with another cake from the boys--I am feeling pretty loved!

I had convinced myself that this would be the worst birthday ever, and I'm thinking it might be one of my best ones ever! Maybe Jason should leave town over my birthday every year! (Just kidding.)

So a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who worked so hard to make me feel special this weekend! I am the luckiest girl in the world to have such wonderful friends, such a wonderful family, and such a wonderful husband!!!

UPDATE: It appears that I may have blogged too soon! On Monday (the day after my birthday) I received the following text: "Good morning doll: I would go here to find a picture of you from 1993." Proving (again!)what an idiot I am, I went to wedding pictures first--and then I remembered we weren't married in 1993! It WAS the year I graduated from High School, however. Tucked inside my high school yearbook, next to my picture, was a gift card for a massage. YAY!

This morning, Jason called to check in. We chatted, and he mentioned that there were no cute texts today. "Oh darn!" I said. But since he is coming home today--I am in no need of more presents--just his presence. :)

Of course...within 10 minutes there was a knock at the door.

My favorite fall colors, no less. :) The attached card said:
"Hi Doll, Home Soon! I love you! JM"

For the record...I LOVE YOU TOO! Can't wait to see you!
